Come back soon

PARADISE, Nev. — Located here in Paradise, four miles south of the Las Vegas border, this neon sign was built by Western Neon and is now owned by Young Electric Sign Company.

Since it is across the street from the shuttered Klondike Casino that is now boarded up and abandoned, I paid my visit during the daylight hours and didn't get to see the sign glowing at night.

The design reminds me of the doo-wop theme in Wildwood, N.J., which I'd like to visit again sometime. So long, Vegas.

Wildwood is an interesting place. I've been through several times in the recent years and think more of it each time I am there. It seems to be undergoing some "vacation gentrification" in the several blocks around the boardwalk while still preserving the doo wop identity. It used to be the kind of beach town where people didn't have tans. The boardwalk is pretty good too and allows bicycles in the morning.

Last year, I went there one early morning, but most of the neon signs were turned off so I didn't get as many photos as I would have liked.

Of course, just up Ocean Drive is Stone Harbor and Avalon which have phenomenal beaches and incredible surf. No neon though and the worst mini-golf courses I have ever seen.

Great pics of a couple of classic Vegas/googie icons, d1004d.
Thanks for the "tip of the hat" to Wildwood's Doo Wop architecture ... You're not the first to recognize the similarities. Wildwood was once nicknamed "the Las Vegas of the East" (of course, we like to think of Las Vegas as the "Wildwood of the west".) The "Brat Pack" used to hang out in Wildwood, on occasion.
wfy, If you do get dome good photos of the Wildwoods' neon, please share them with us at Wildwood Doo Wop!
(Or just head over and enjoy some other folks' photos.)
