In Mexico, he'd have 250 million reasons to live

Kim Etheredge, a publicist for Terrell Owens, told reporters yesterday that Owens was not depressed and did not try to commit suicide.

"Terrell has 25 million reasons why he should be alive," she said, referring to his $25 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Obviously, Etheredge's comments were moronic — does she think people with money cannot be depressed?

But her statement bothered me for another reason too: Her $1-per-reason-to-live equation implies that if Owens was earning only $8.00 per year, he would still have eight reasons to live.

I like to imagine an "It's A Wonderful Life"-type scene where T.O.'s agent (Clarence) appears to him in a dream, shows him a big pile of money, and then he decides he wants to live.

"To my client, Terrell Owens! The richest man in town! Literally!"

And then everyone sings Auld Lang Syne.
